Self assessment can provide insight into how you are performing and identify gaps in your knowledge or experience.
For assessing yourself against the skills within this framework, will provide information for your personal development plan or identify what steps you may need to undertake to develop your career. You can also consider what skills are set out in other frameworks (which are referenced elsewhere in this document) to decide which roles or careers may be right for your next step.
Regular self assessment or evaluation means you are becoming an active participant in your own development. It can keep you motivated and engaged.
As part of your self assessment you can seek feedback from others, not just your line manager/supervisor, but colleagues, service users, etc
Once you have completed your self assessment write down an action plan with smart goals.
Why is this importantUndertaking self assessment or self evaluation should be part of every person’s personal development plan and appraisal.
It provides the employee with an opportunity to reflect, highlight achievements and opportunities for improvement/development as well as identifying when they are ready or able to progress in their role, which may include taking on additional responsibilities as well as taking on higher roles.
Self assessment can assist in identification of strengths and development needs of an individual, or across a team. It can also help a person identify what issues they may be dealing with, or barriers to learning if they feel they are not listened to or haven’t had an opportunity to express their needs and aspirations for their career and themselves.
