One of our brilliant staff from a care home here in south east London, features in videos made by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), to celebrate this year’s Nursing Support Workers’ (NSW) Day.
Hannah, who works at St Mary’s Care Home in Lambeth, was chosen as one of just four nursing support workers interviewed this month for the RCN’s video campaign, which gained local and national publicity.
NSW Day, which takes place each year on 23 November, aims to highlight the vital contribution nursing support workers make to patients in health and social care. This year the event aimed not only to shine a light on these roles, but to celebrate the importance of diversity and inclusivity for those working in health care, and those they care for.
The term ’nursing support worker’ encompasses hundreds of different job titles and roles, including health care support workers, assistant practitioners, nursing associates and health care assistants. These staff work independently, alongside registered nurses and as part of wider multidisciplinary teams in all health and social care settings.
Benny Okpor, Social Care Nursing Clinical Practice Development Lead for South East London Integrated Care System (ICS), who has been working with multiple care providers across all six boroughs in the region, to support and develop their nursing staff said:
“I am delighted that St Mary’s Care Home and Hannah, who is such an inspirational nursing support worker, were chosen to take part in this video project. It not only highlights the invaluable work they do but has also provided them with a platform to share their voices, experiences, smiles, and hard work!
“It serves as a powerful reminder of how meaningful their role is in creating a nurturing and dignified environment for those we care for. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Hannah and all the staff of St Mary’s – especially their manager, Priscilla and clinical lead, Clarissa.
“Their support and cooperation were instrumental in bringing this initiative to life, and showing what amazing care we are delivering here in south east London.”
