New service provides health care at home

09 Apr 2025

People in Greenwich are getting more help to stay healthy at home thanks to the launch of a new digital health and care service.

The Digital Health and Care Technology Service was launched in April 2025, and provides technology such as video doorbells for security, voice assistants for medication reminders, and tablets to stay connected with family and healthcare professionals. These tools are designed to help people live safely and independently, offering extra support and peace of mind.

This initiative is part of a Healthier Greenwich Partnership programme to modernise health and social care across Royal Greenwich. The local NHS and council are behind the service which is delivered by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

Research shows that with the right support at home, people recover faster, stay healthier, and avoid unnecessary hospital visits. The service is accessible to residents of all ages, including those with disabilities, individuals recovering from hospital stays, and people living with dementia.

Over 250 local residents, carers, and health professionals have helped shape the service to meet the real needs of the community, with a focus on strengths-based care that promotes independence and well-being.

To ensure effectiveness, health and care professionals will receive training and ongoing support, while the Digital Champions programme will help build confidence in using the technology.

The new service is part of the Healthier Greenwich Partnership Home First approach which supports residents to maintain their independence and improve their quality of life through care based at home when it is safe to do so.
