On Friday 7 March 2025, students at Bromley Adult Education College celebrated International Women’s Day with a women’s health event, which was aimed at equipping them with vital knowledge to support their health and wellbeing.
The event focused on two key topics: breast cancer awareness and menopause. Run by the college in collaboration with One Bromley and the local Primary Care Network, the event was designed to support students at the college, many of whom are refugees, migrants, or residents with English as a second language.
Over 40 students attended the session, asking questions, and taking home useful resources. The session highlighted the importance of early detection through self-examination, attending appointments for breast screening, and recognising and managing menopause symptoms. There was also additional information about Cervical Cancer Screening and blood pressure checks completed on the day.
Paola Moioli, ESOL and Outreach Curriculum Development Manager and Safeguarding Officer at Bromley Adults Education College said ‘We had a wonderful morning and well-organised session on breast cancer, self-assessment, and menopause. The students were highly engaged and asked many insightful questions, which demonstrated their genuine interest in the topics and how comfortable and at ease they felt. Thank you again for your dedication and support. I truly believe that our partnership will make a significant positive impact on the health of the community.’
Claire, Care Coordinator at Penge Primary Care Network said ‘the event was a great opportunity to meet and support students and staff at the centre. We will continue to work with the team to create more learning opportunities and improve access to services in Penge’.
