Thamesmead Health Centre Update

We’re informing patients registered for GP services at Thamesmead Health Centre about some future changes to the management of these services. The current contract with AT Medics Ltd, which has been in place since 2015, is coming to an end on March 31, 2025.

What happens next:

NHS South East London Integrated Care Board (ICB) will conduct a formal selection process to appoint a new provider (or reappoint the existing provider) to manage GP services at Thamesmead Health Centre. This process will be fair and transparent, taking into account patient feedback and the best interests of the community. A current patient will be involved in the selection process.

What this means for you:

  • Your GP services will continue uninterrupted. The NHS is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and your access to care will not be affected.
  • You do not need to change your GP or register with a new surgery. Your existing doctor-patient relationship will remain the same.
  • The surgery will not close. Thamesmead Health Centre will continue to operate as usual.

Patient information sessions:

We want to ensure that patients are kept informed throughout this process. We are hosting two online patient information sessions where you will be able to ask questions about the procurement process. Click the link below to view recording of the session:

We understand that any change can be unsettling, but we want to assure you that your health and wellbeing remain our top priority. We will keep you updated throughout this process and we will do everything possible to minimise any disruption to your care.

Frequently asked questions:

Is Thamesmead Health Centre going to close?

No, the purpose of appointing a new provider for the GP surgery is to ensure that the service for patients can continue uninterrupted.

What will happen to the staff currently at Thamesmead Health Centre?

The staff are protected under the Transfer of Undertakings – Protection of Employment (TUPE) and will be transferred from the old employer to the new employer if a new provider is appointed for the service.

Do I need to do anything to remain registered with Thamesmead Health Centre?

No, you will continue to be registered with the surgery and will continue to be a patient of the Thamesmead Health Centre even if a new provider takes over the services.

What if I want to change to register with another GP surgery?

Patients can register with any surgery if that surgery is accepting new patients, and you are in their catchment area or they are accepting patients from outside their area. However, most patients want to register with a surgery close to their home.

Who can I contact if I have further questions?

If you have questions about this process please email greenwich.primarycare@selondonics.nhs.uk and we will answer them.
