Medicines are a key part of most NHS treatments. They play a vital role in nearly every care pathway.
Medicines optimisation ensures people get the most suitable and effective medicines for their health conditions. This approach maximise benefits whilst reducing risk. NHS South East London spends around £800m on medicines every year, so making medicines work well is essential to improving patient care and outcomes.

The SEL Integrated Pharmacy Stakeholder Group (IPSG) leads this work.
Made up of senior pharmacy leaders across the Integrated Care System, the group responds to the Joint Forward Plan for Transforming and Integrating Medicines Optimisation and People Strategy, develops innovative care models and shapes pharmacy leadership in line with the NHS Long Term Plan and local strategies.
The IPSG works on:
Dedicated working groups, like the Integrated Pharmacy Workforce Group (IPWG), help deliver these projects by leveraging expertise from across the system.
Reducing the environmental impact of medicines in line with NHS net zero goals.
