Celebrating Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week 2024 – and all year round

Today sees the launch of Equality, Diversity and Human Rights Week 2024 (#EQW2024), a national campaign for health and care organisations to showcase their work and commitment to delivering a fairer and more inclusive NHS for patients and staff.

Each day this week focusses on a different theme and we’ll be supporting the campaign across the South East London Integrated Care System (SEL ICS) with many of our health and care partners organising events:

• Monday 13 May – Hidden Disabilities
• Tuesday 14 May – Fostering excellence in tackling inequality
• Wednesday 15 May – Creating anti-racist organisations
• Thursday 16 May – A spotlight on women leaders
• Friday 17 May – International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia

The significance of fostering a fairer and more inclusive health and care environment resonates deeply within the SEL ICS Equality Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) committee. Earlier this year, we established key priorities and stated our ambition to create an engaged community by:

• Championing, embracing and fostering a culture of inclusivity and belonging across the SEL workforce.
• Eliminating all forms of discrimination to ensure fairness and equity in all our people policies, processes and practices.
• Establishing and inspiring a community of individuals across SEL who are motivated to challenge, drive change and create a space where everyone has a voice and feels heard.

EQW2024 is an important event to amplify diverse voices and champion equity. But we must work all year round to build a future where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered to thrive.

To that end, we will be hosting a series of events over the coming months to share learning and best practice, celebrate national inclusion events and spotlight the great work happening across our system. Events are free and open to all SEL health and care staff.
