Online appointment booking enhances access to Bromley’s community services

10 Feb 2025

South East London community service provider Bromley Healthcare has introduced Accurx online booking to improve access to community health services, reduce missed appointments, and streamline administrative processes.

The new system allows patients, parents, and carers to receive a text message with a link to book appointments at a convenient time and location.

Since the rollout began in autumn 2024, more than 50% of patients have opted to use the booking system. Services such as Adult Bladder and Bowel and Lymphoedema have demonstrated high levels of engagement, with the latter achieving 75% online booking rate.

The system is currently live for the following services:

  • Health Visiting (Bexley, Bromley, and Greenwich)
  • Podiatry
  • Diabetes
  • Speech and Language Therapy (ASLT)
  • Adult Bladder and Bowel
  • Adult Dietetics
  • Lymphoedema

Patient feedback has been integral to the success of this initiative. Efforts to address concerns around text message legitimacy and ease of use include a targeted social media campaign, updated service webpages, and clear guidance. Patients are also reminded to keep their contact details up to date, with alternative booking options remaining available to ensure inclusivity.

This initiative forms part of Bromley Healthcare’s broader digital transformation programme, designed to make healthcare services easier to navigate. Plans are in place to expand online booking to additional services by March 2025, further supporting accessible, patient-focused care across the community.
