SEL ICB has published its transformation plan for children and young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing services in south east London. Our aim is to support service improvements that will benefit children and young people, their parents and carers across our six boroughs. The NHS works with partners across south east London to deliver on these expectations: the voluntary and community sector, social enterprises, providers of mental health services, local authority partners and commissioning leads.

The plan outlines the progress we have made so far in improving care for the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people and the key actions we will take in 2024/25 and 2025/26. The plan also acknowledges that there is still work to be done to transform services across our six boroughs in south east London.

Together, we have agreed priority areas for transformation that include:

  • Reducing the time that children and young people wait to access mental health services and for an assessment of neurodevelopmental needs
  • Improving access to support and information to children and families while they wait to access care
  • Strengthening our mental health offer available in schools
  • Improving our parental mental health offer.

Ify Okocha, Chief Executive Officer from Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust says: “We continue to invest in children and young people’s services but know that we also need to address the wider determinants of health in our communities to stem the rising demand for children’s mental health services. Our transformation plan sets out how we’re changing the way we work together in response to the challenges we face to improve services and waiting times for our children and young people across the communities we serve.”
