Applying for the role
you have made the first step!

Most roles are now advertised using an on-line facility. Some are a national facility such as NHS Jobs, or others may use a recruitment agency or similar. Others may have their own on-line process via their website.

In most cases, you will need to complete an application form which asks for your experience, the type of work you have done in the past, personal information about you and why you would like the job.

At the time of application, you will also need to provide the name of people who can vouch for you as referees.  They may be professional, employment or personal references.  In most cases two references are normally requested.

Tips

  • Are you looking for a part-time or full-time role.  Do you need advice regarding impact on any benefits you may be in receipt of?
  • How flexible can you be in the time to give and your working hours?
  • Look through the competency framework to see what experience or skills you may need to include?
  • Be honest about any gaps in experience, employment and your personal situation
  • For those applying for roles with lived experience as a requirement, is your experience tangible and relevant to the role you are applying for?
  • Read the job description thoroughly as the job title may not necessarily describe the role in detail
  • Research the company and similar roles to get a feel for the role you are considering and the values of the organisation
